People visiting the north today are offered many choices for accommodations. It can be difficult to decide, and often the right or wrong decision can greatly change the entire travel experience.
Things to consider:
- How long is the vacation?
- What sites do I want to see?
- Luxury or Rustic?
How long is the vacation?
Your duration will affect your accommodation choices. If you are just passing through often times a Bed and Breakfast or Hotel will be your best choice. Sometimes cabin rentals require multiple days for duration and B&Bs and Hotels do not.
What sites do I want to see?
If you want to roam free and see it all traveling from Cabin to Cabin can be a great experience. Many of the Cabins found in the Yukon are in remote locations and just getting there is more then half the fun. If you are looking to explore choosing a cabin really is the way to go. It will bring you closer to nature and adventure.
Some regions that offer Cabin Rentals:
- Dawson City
- Carcross
- Tagish
- Keno City & May
- Kluane National Park & Haines Junction
- Marsh Lake
- South Canol Road
Comfort or rustic?
Not all cabin rentals provide all the amenities. Some offer outhouses instead of running water/plumbing. This cannot be faulted as often times it can be cost prohibitive to install these amenities in a single cabin in remote locations. But, most cabins closer to Whitehorse and area will offer all the creature comforts.
Other things to consider as well are cancellation policies. Cabin operators usually only have a small quantity of units and a cancellation will result in a higher chance of having no revenues. Whereas a hotel or similar business will suffer a smaller loss as their clients base and bookings are more diversified. This however will result in a higher cancellation fee when travel plans go unforeseen. That’s way it’s good to plan ahead and look into travel insurance.
